A sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is in development. Hollow Knight was well received by critics and has sold over 3 million copies as of December 2020. The player is the Knight, a nameless warrior uncertain of their own identity or origin, who wanders and explores the ruined kingdom of Hallownest to uncover its mysteries, encountering various friendly or hostile bugs, fighting bosses, and unlocking new powers and abilities to progress. Development was partially funded through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, raising over A$57,000 by the end of 2014. It was released on Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux in 2017, and on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2018. With how long the sequel has been kept secret, it is great to see that the experience will offer plenty of complexity but still be accessible for new players.Hollow Knight is a 2017 Metroidvania action-adventure game developed and published by Team Cherry. Oftentimes sequels depend heavily on the original game and do not try to push the buck. Thankfully, it sounds like many of these desirable characteristics will be returning for Silksong. These games can be a dime a dozen, but Team Cherry's attempt is held up by the fantastic atmosphere, characters animated by hand, and combat that pushes players to the limit. Hollow Knight is a popular game in part because of how it combines the Metroidvania genre with a Soulslike. In case anyone did not try out the first game, Team Cherry assures that those players can jump into the sequel without any problem. These can involve combat challenges or secret locations, and are available alongside the main quests. Rather than aimless exploration, there will be a noticeboard with various tasks to keep track of.
For instance, Hornet can speak, a quality that results in a much stronger personality than the original hero.
For those who struggled to get into the first game due to its very open-ended nature, Hollow Knight: Silksong sounds to remedy some of those issues.
